Tire Shredder: A Simple Guide

A tire shredder is a type of machinery that has gained popularity only in recent years. As a result, it is still unfamiliar to many, and there are relatively few manufacturers producing it. However, as industries continue to explore its functions, this machine is being used more widely.

The main components of a tire shredder include an electric motor, a gear reducer, and the shredding unit. Densely arranged cutting blades are mounted on two parallel shafts that rotate at low speed and cut in an interlocking manner. During operation, the shredder shafts turn slowly, driven by the motor and reducer. Material is fed into the machine via a conveyor and is torn apart by the blades. The shredded output is then carried away by a discharge conveyor.

The working principle relies on shearing, tearing, and squeezing actions between the blades to process materials. It is commonly used in recycling, volume reduction before landfill disposal, and pre-processing for waste-to-energy incineration.

Tire shredders are designed for low speed and high torque, offering strong crushing power, high output, low noise, and stable operation. Based on the processing method, they can be classified into dry, wet, and semi-wet systems. The dry system uses air separation and dust removal; the wet system uses water spray during shredding and washing during sorting; the semi-wet system uses only a small amount of water for dust control.
